Top Universities in Seoul for Indian Students (2027)
Sixteen QS-ranked universities, semester tuition in INR, exactly which programmes are taught in English, and the admission dates that decide whether you make the March or September 2027 intake.
Roughly seventy percent of Korean higher education sits inside Seoul. Three of Asia's best-known universities — Seoul National, Yonsei and Korea University, collectively the SKY group — are within an hour of each other on the same metro network, and thirteen more QS-ranked institutions share that network. For an Indian student, this concentration is the practical argument for Seoul: you can shortlist sixteen credible universities without ever changing city.
This guide is written for the 2027 intakes. Every ranking below is from the QS World University Rankings 2027, tuition is converted to Indian rupees at prevailing rates, and the English-programme notes reflect what is actually available to an applicant from India rather than what a brochure implies. For the continuously updated city reference — university-by-university hubs, English-track table and admission calendar — see our main guide to universities in Seoul, South Korea.
How to read the fee figures: Korean universities publish tuition per semester, and there are two semesters in an academic year. Engineering, medicine and design faculties sit at the upper end of each range; humanities and social sciences at the lower end. INR figures move with the won–rupee rate, so treat them as planning bands and confirm the current won amount on the university's admission page.

Admission Dates for Seoul Universities
Korean universities run two intakes a year. The windows below are the pattern Seoul universities have followed consistently; individual deadlines vary by up to three weeks between institutions, so always verify against the specific admission guideline.
March 2027 (Spring)
Applications
September – November 2026
Offer letters
December 2026 – January 2027
D-2 visa
January – February 2027
The larger intake. Most English-taught undergraduate seats and nearly all scholarships open here.
September 2027 (Fall)
Applications
March – May 2027
Offer letters
June – July 2027
D-2 visa
July – August 2027
Smaller but far less competitive. Ideal for students finishing Class XII in mid-2027 or repeating an application.
March 2028 (Spring)
Applications
September – November 2027
Offer letters
December 2027 – January 2028
D-2 visa
January – February 2028
Plan for this cycle if you are currently in Class XI or in the second year of a bachelor's degree.
The date that actually catches Indian students out is not the university deadline — it is the apostille. Class XII marksheets and degree certificates must be apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs, and that process takes two to four weeks after state-level authentication. Begin document work the moment you decide on an intake.
English-Taught Programmes in Seoul: What Is Genuinely Available
Nearly every Seoul university advertises English-taught courses, but the depth varies enormously. Three categories are worth distinguishing before you shortlist.
Fully English-medium colleges. Yonsei's Underwood International College is the clearest example — an entire undergraduate college where every course, from admission to graduation, is delivered in English. Korea University's international divisions and Sungkyunkwan's Global Business and Global Economics tracks operate on the same principle. If you want zero Korean-language dependency for your degree, this is the category to target.
English tracks within Korean departments. Hanyang, Sogang, Kyung Hee and Konkuk run substantial English course inventories inside otherwise Korean departments. You can complete a degree in English, but course selection narrows in later semesters, and departmental notices are often Korean-only. This is workable and it is where a large share of our students study.
Graduate-only English provision. Seoul National University and the University of Seoul fall largely here. Master's and doctoral programmes, particularly in engineering and public policy, run in English while undergraduate teaching remains predominantly Korean.
For all three categories, TOPIK is not required at admission. Most universities do expect Korean Level 3 before graduation, and Korean ability is the single biggest determinant of whether you can work part-time productively or convert your degree into an E-7 employment visa afterwards.
What Studying in Seoul Costs in INR (2027)
A realistic all-in figure for Seoul is ₹7 lakh to ₹14 lakh per year before scholarships, which places it at roughly a third of the equivalent cost in the United Kingdom or Australia.
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition (private, English track) | ₹2.4 – ₹5.5 lakh / semester | Two semesters per academic year; scholarships routinely cut this by 30–100% |
| Tuition (public — University of Seoul, SNU) | ₹1.4 – ₹3.6 lakh / semester | Lowest published tuition in the city |
| Dormitory (on campus) | ₹14,000 – ₹22,000 / month | Twin sharing, usually with a meal plan option |
| Off-campus one-room / goshiwon | ₹28,000 – ₹45,000 / month | Plus a key-money deposit in most cases |
| Food and daily expenses | ₹12,000 – ₹18,000 / month | University cafeteria meals cost ₹250 – ₹400 |
| Transport (T-money) | ₹3,500 – ₹5,000 / month | 23 metro lines; average fare around ₹90 |
| National Health Insurance | ₹4,000 – ₹4,500 / month | Mandatory for D-2 students after six months |
Scholarships change this arithmetic substantially. Seoul universities award admission scholarships of 30 to 100 percent of tuition on the basis of academic record and English score, and the government-funded GKS covers tuition, a monthly stipend and airfare in full. Among the students we placed for the September 2026 intake, every admitted student received at least a 30 percent tuition scholarship.
Entry Requirements for Indian Applicants
- Class X and Class XII marksheets and passing certificate, or the bachelor's degree and transcripts for postgraduate applicants
- Apostilled academic documents — arrange this early, as India's MEA apostille adds two to four weeks
- English proficiency: IELTS 5.5 – 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 71 – 80 for most English-taught programmes; a few universities accept a medium-of-instruction certificate
- Statement of purpose and a study plan, which carries real weight in Korean admissions
- Two recommendation letters for graduate applications
- Passport valid for the full duration of the programme
- Financial evidence of roughly USD 10,000 – 20,000 for the D-2 visa, held in a bank account for the required period
Korean admissions committees read the study plan carefully. A specific, well-argued statement explaining why this department, this university and this city frequently outweighs a marginally higher percentage in Class XII.
How to Shortlist Among Sixteen Universities
Working backwards from outcomes is more useful than working down a ranking table. If your priority is the strongest possible brand in India and Korea, the SKY trio and SKKU are the shortlist. If it is engineering with employment in Korea, Hanyang and SKKU have the deepest industry pipelines, Samsung and Hyundai included. If it is the lowest total cost, University of Seoul, Kookmin and Sejong keep annual spend closest to ₹7 lakh.
For creative fields, ranking is close to irrelevant: Hongik for design, Chung-Ang for film and performing arts, and Kookmin for automotive design each outrank far higher-placed universities within their disciplines. And if you are a woman applying with a scholarship focus, Ewha and Sookmyung consistently fund international students well.
A practical shortlist is six universities: two ambitious, three realistic and one safe, spread across at least two fee bands so that a scholarship decision does not derail the plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which is the best university in Seoul for Indian students in 2027?
It depends on your field and budget. Seoul National University (#38 QS 2027) is the strongest overall but has limited English-taught undergraduate options. For Indian students who need a fully English-taught degree, Yonsei University's Underwood International College, Korea University and Sungkyunkwan University are usually the strongest fit. For engineering with scholarship support, Hanyang and SKKU are consistently the most practical choices.
How much does it cost to study in Seoul for an Indian student?
Tuition in Seoul ranges from about ₹1.4 lakh per semester at the public University of Seoul to about ₹5.5 lakh per semester at Yonsei. Living costs run ₹35,000 to ₹55,000 a month including a dormitory. A realistic all-in figure is ₹7 to ₹14 lakh per year before scholarships — roughly one-third of a comparable degree in the UK or Australia.
Can I study in Seoul without knowing Korean?
Yes. Every university on this list runs English-taught programmes at some level, and Yonsei UIC, Korea University, SKKU, Hanyang and Sogang offer complete degrees in English. TOPIK is not required at admission for these tracks, although most universities expect Level 3 before graduation and Korean matters a great deal for part-time work and employment after your degree.
When should an Indian student apply for the March 2027 intake in Seoul?
Applications for the March 2027 intake open around September 2026 and most Seoul universities close between late October and November 2026. Offers arrive from December 2026 to January 2027, and the D-2 visa is applied for in January and February 2027. Apostille of Indian academic documents should be started at least two months before the application deadline.
What scholarships are available at Seoul universities?
Three layers exist: the government-funded GKS, which covers full tuition, a monthly stipend and airfare; university admission scholarships, which typically waive 30 to 100 percent of tuition based on academic record and English score; and continuing merit scholarships awarded on your Korean GPA each semester. Indian students in our cohort routinely receive 30 to 50 percent at the admission stage.
